My mom read this raggedy ann book back in the early 70s when she was a child, it was the first book she ever read. She has been trying to find the name of the book for ages now and can’t seem to find it. It’s driving us both nuts trying to figure it out! We’re hoping someone on YA might know. :) Please help us!

Here’s what the book is about:

First off Raggedy ANDY is no where in the story.

It starts off with Ann being owned by a little girl who looses her (mom thinks) and Ann goes traveling around the world either passed, lost and picked up or otherwise going from one girl to another girl in all different countries till she winds up back home.

If you remember this story please tell us the name of it or where you remember seeing it (like if it came with a doll or something). My mom has wanted to find that story again as it was very special to her as a child. Any help would be wonderful and we’d both be so thankful if anyone can provide us with the answer! We’d love you forever! :)
Mom and I are starting to wonder if perhaps the story was not from the original creator of Raggedy Ann. Was there any Raggedy Ann style clone stories made in the 60s-70s or any dolls which came with little books? From what my mother tells me the story seemed to be about how all the girls of the world fell in love with Raggedy Ann and why she is all around the world. To me this sounds perhaps like some sort of special book that came with a RA doll.

One Response to “Does anyone know this Raggedy Ann book?”

  • Richard Sharpe says:

I have not heard of the books but Andy appeared in the second book so therefore, by my deduction, the book your mother read has to have been the first book, Raggedy Ann Stories (1918) written and illustrated by Johnny Gruelle.

A sequel, Raggedy Andy Stories (1920) introduced the character of her brother, Raggedy Andy, dressed in sailor suit and hat.
